Come out for a 5K fun run/walk at Embarcadero South Park to enjoy a waterfront course and Downtown San Diego excitement. This family-friendly event will benefit local homeless shelters via Interfaith Community Services. Your participation and fundraising will enable Kids 4 Community and Interfaith Community Services to: feed the homeless, provide shelter, provide mentoring opportunities for high risk youth, self sufficiency and employment programs, temporary and permanent housing programs. Did you know that the Bright Futures 5K is the only MAJOR peer-to-peer fundraiser for the ICS Center! Get involved by registering for the event, and sharing your personal fundraising page. Bring your friends and family to make a bigger difference, as all proceeds will be donated to our local homeless neighbors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be an athlete to participate?
Not at all! Participants of all ages and athletic abilities are welcome. The course is 3.1 flat miles around the Embarcadero.
Can kids participate?
Yes, absolutely! This event is family and kids friendly.
Can pets participate?
Yes, absolutely! This event is 4- legged friends friendly. Please keep your doggies on a leash at all times.
Is it stroller friendly?
Yes, absolutely! The flat, bay front sidewalk can easily accommodate strollers.
Will water be provided?
Two water stations, including dog bowls, will be positioned on the course, but we highly recommend you bring your own as well.
What is the difference between team and individual registration?
Starting or registering for a team can be a fun way to challenge each other to succeed at fundraising goals! Grab a bunch of your friends; come up with a fun name! Or register as an individual to keep all the focus on you.
Is the race timed?
Yes, only pre-registered runners will be timed. Please kindly register online if you’d like to be timed.
What does my registration fee get me?
Runner and walker registrations include 5K fee (timing for runners only), commemorative t-shirt, goodie bag, healthy snacks to refuel after the race.
Do I have to pay for my baby or toddler?
The race is free for children under 4!
When does registration close?
Online registration will close at 3pm on Saturday, March 24. Event day registration will be open on March 25, from 6:45-7:15am. Please note that timed runner registration will close Saturday March 24th at 3pm along with online registration.
How do I get my participant packet?
You can pick up your packet the day of the race at 6:30 AM.
Can I have a friend or teammate pick up my packet for me?
Yes, you can pick up for a friend or your teammates by showing physical or electronic proof of registration.
What should I wear and bring with me on race day?
- Wear clothing that is comfortable to exercise in, as well as broken in athletic shoes.
- Bring a hat and sunscreen for coverage.
- There will be water provided throughout the course, but we highly recommend you bring your own.
- Make sure you have waste bags, a leash, and tags if you bring your pet
- A big smile and great attitude
What happens if there’s rain?
Rain or shine, the race is on!
Where do I park?
Street parking is available at various public lots adjacent to the course. See map on registration site for details.
Will there be a bag storage service on site?
We are unable to offer storage for personal items. Please leave any items you will not need for the race in your vehicle.
Where can I find my race results?
Results will show on a screen as timed participants pass the finish line. There will also be a booth nearby for timing inquiries.
Where will Lost & Found be located?
Found items will be brought to the Registration booth.
Can I get a refund?
Sorry, but no. We have a strict no-refund policy. Your registration fee is a 100% donation to Interfaith Community Services- helping the homeless in need.
